This was early in 2009 when I first met Lisa and her then music partner (now, husband) Andy Long as they performed at The Wine Company. Now Lisa is proud to say she is still singing and really has become a “local rock star.” She recently launched an online clothing, accessories and cosmetics store to bring out the rock star in every woman. Not so surprisingly it’s called “Basically, I’m a Rockstar.”
Lisa told me that as a child she had some lofty goals. “I wanted to be an actress, and an artist, and I had an interest in fashion design. Of course, if none of that worked out, I wanted to be Julie on “The Love Boat.”
Once the Deek & Long Band was established on the local music scene, Lisa thought about her dreams of designing clothes and marketing her own rock star fashion line. Although she saw the present economy as being a big hurdle Lisa decided to look at the positive side of recession and develop an affordable business with a definite WOW factor. She put together an eclectic blend of clothing, fun and flashy accessories and even added a special make-up line. Most all items are under $20.00.
Happy to be living in an era that celebrates women of all ages she now knows 40 is beautiful, empowering and even sexy. “I celebrate all women, no matter who we are, what we do, our age or our lifestyle. I know how to provide amazing customer service…find out what women want, and what makes them feel special.”
As I watch Lisa perform with her band I see some other rock star clothing criteria. This woman moves – thus her clothes must be comfortable. Her personality is big and fun and her sound is unique. She demands that her clothing makes a statement. Lisa was wearing one of the most interesting items from her collection. It’s a handmade mini skirt of her design that wraps and snaps into place, fitting sizes 4 to 14. It’s custom made for only $50.

Here is a clip of Deek & Long performing. You can enjoy their music almost every week at a variety of local Inland Valley venues: Saturday, April 23, 6-9pm at Lorimar Winery tasting room in Old Town Temecula; Friday, April 29, 8-11pm at Stellar Cellar and Saturday, April 30, 7:30-10:30 at The Wine Company.
A very special “Basically, I’m a Rockstar” fashion show is taking place this coming Thursday, April 21 from 5-7pm at The Wine Company. Enjoy music, appetizers, prizes and even a photo contest. There is no charge to attend.
Although I already knew that local support and a loyal fan base is the life blood of so many talented musicians, I had to ask Lisa why local matters to her personally.
“I believe strong neighborhoods mean stronger cities, which build stronger states and a stronger country. So buying local is important, but also buy from businesses who exercise strong customer service skills, provide superior products and those who offer fair pricing. When we do this, we can feel good about ourselves and live our dreams.”
Lisa Long is a woman who “gets” it. Welcome “Basically, I’m a Rockstar” to our family of local businesses.
